Michigan art council gets $345,100
The National Endowment for the Arts awarded the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs $345,100 in stimulus money Friday, as part of the 2009 Federal Recovery Act. The money, part of nearly $20 million in onetime grants to state and regional arts agencies, is earmarked for re-granting to arts organizations across Michigan and designed to stem job losses in the culture sector.
In July the NEA will announce an additional $30 million in direct grants to nonprofit arts organizations such as symphonies, museums and theaters and local arts agencies. Groups that received NEA money in the past four years were eligible to apply for grants of $25,000 or $50,000.
